They were around for just over a year before they broke up and went their seperate ways. Although this CD is a posthumous release for an incredibly under-rated UK band, it's also no less important than any of the other releases on Newest Industry. It's a piece of British punk rock / hardcore / indie history that we're just blown away to be bringing out into the open. Simply put, the tracks on "1999" are incredible. They feature the genius song writing abilities of Scott Stewart who you might know from amazing Scottish JAWBREAKER / LEATHERFACE influenced bands BROCCOLI and APPLE ORCHARD. SHONBEN are kind of like a missing link in Scott's musical history. Also in SHONBEN was Janet Morgan who went on to be in CHANNELS with J. Robbins (JAWBOX, BURNING AIRLINES)...Most of the songs on this CD have never been previously released, so for 99 percent of you, this will be like hearing a new band's new release.
