When you put "This Microscopic War" on for the first time you wouldn't think in a million years that it was A DEATH IN THE FAMILY's debut release. It takes a special kind of band to come up with such an incredible record so early on in their "career", but that is exactly what A DEATH IN THE FAMILY is - a special kind of band. From the stunning song writing and production to the remarkable arrangement of instruments, shared vocal duties and lush, slick guitar work, "This Microscopic War" really does leave you wanting more. It's obvious I'm not the only one that's thought this though, as the band has landed some pretty big tours over the last couple of years, with such bands as THE DRAFT, AGAINST ME!, LEATHERFACE and MILLOY to name but a few. But then when you're putting out music reminscent of classic HOT WATER MUSIC crossed with the melodic genius of LEATHERFACE in their prime, and sharing male / female vocal duties that bring to mind FIFTH HOUR HERO, everyone is going to want to be your friend! Licensed from the band's own Poison City Records, based out of Melbourne, Australia, "This Microscopic War" really is one of the most powerful, solid and genuinely "from the heart" punk rock albums Newest Industry has ever had the privilege of being involved in, and judging from the couple of new songs that have been floating around recently, A DEATH IN THE FAMILY are no "on trick pony" but moreso an incredibly talented group of people who know what sounds good and what doesn't.
Recorded in the Autumn of 2005 at The Arthouse, Melbourne by Frankie Stubbs.
Mastered at Crystal Mastering, Melbourne, Australia by Jo Carra.
