Not only is "Museum of Mistakes" the first vinyl LP release for Newest Industry, it's also the debut album from Los Angeles, California based political punk band MAX AND THE MARGINALIZED. This record takes 12 (14 with download) of their best tracks from an initial batch of 61 and presents them in one cohesive piece of work which could probably be best described as "protest punk". Drawing from many influences, both musically and politically, "Museum of Mistakes" takes you on a journey through the America of today, pointing out and questioning the many problems and contradictions the country faces. With left leaning views on such topics as the death penalty, Guantanamo Bay, the war in Afghanistan, the American health care system, California's disgusting Proposition 8, South Dakota's abortion law and many other issues, MAX AND THE MARGINALIZED certainly does not sit on the fence, instead airing their grievances through an absolutely stunning collection of songs. Musically, the band states influences from CRASS to THE JAM, from HUSKER DU to TED LEO & THE PHARMACISTS, and from LAWRENCE ARMS to MDC and back again. The end result is a diverse sound all of their own, but with definite nods to JAWBREAKER, TED LEO and even THE KINKS. A truly inspiring piece of work.
